Jewish Image Awards Gala in Beverly Hills Hosted by Actor Jeffrey Tambor

The MorningStar Commission, founded by Hadassah, co-hosted the 5 th Annual Jewish Image Awards in Film and Television. MorningStar presented actress Fran Drescher ("The Nanny," "Living With Fran") with the Marlene Marks MorningStar Woman of Inspiration Award. The Jewish Image Awards was created to celebrate outstanding contemporary creative work, transcending stereotypes, which portray Jewish values, history and traditions in film and television. Ms. Dresecher spoke passionately about celebrating Jewish culture and values in her tv shows. She also discussed her ongoing mission to bring awareness and progressive legislation to combat and prevent gynecological cancer.

MorningStar at the Jewish Federation's 7th Biennial Educator's Conference

At the Ted Constant Convocation Center of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, the conference explored the roots of prejudice, hatred and indifference and offered the tools to stand up, speak out and promote tolerance. The conference is geared to elementary, middle and high school teachers. MorningStar's Olivia Cohen-Cutler was a featured speaker at the event.

MorningStar Hosts a Panel at the Skirball Cultural Center

"Desperate Housewives and Beyond" - a panel discussion moderated by actress Amber Tamblyn ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and "Joan of Arcadia"). A stimulating conversation with prominent writers, producers and actors, including audience participation, about the changing images of Jewish women and men in the popular media. An audience of over 150 people were engaged in a program with a panel composed of: Hank Steinberg (writer/creator "Without A Trace"), David Sacks (writer "Malcolm in the Middle"), Bill Prady (writer "Gilmore Girls"), Carole Leifer (writer "Seinfeld"), Caroline Aaron (actress "Beyond The Sea"), Iris Grossman (VP of ICM, Pres of Women In Film).

MorningStar in Beverly Hills

MorningStar Board members, writer/singer Shelly Goldstein, writer Arlene Sarner and filmmaker Linda Shayne, will present a multi-media presentation on the 100 years of the images of Jewish women in film and television for a Youth Services Luncheon sponsored by Hadassah of Southern California. Singing, video clips and live commentary will be combined in this entertaining and informative presentation.

MorningStar Speaks at Jewish Film Festival in San Diego

MorningStar Board member, Olivia Cohen-Cutler, will speak on a panel at the film festival after about the book and film, MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR. As the commission got its name partially from the inspiration of that book, the MorningStar Commission is particularly pleased to participate in this event.

MorningStar in Austin at the Jewish Community Center
Sponosored by Hadassah of Austin and Hillel, the MorningStar Commission will participate in the Tapestry Program of Jewish Learning. MorningStar Board member, filmmaker Linda Shayne, and MorningStar Advisory Board, Pauli Horowitz (who was featured in MTV's "Sorority Life" TV series) will present a one hour program. Pauli will speak about her personal experience with being featured on a reality tv series and Linda will speak on Jewish female images on tv and film. Both will speak on the work MorningStar does to promote positive images of Jewish women in the media.
