MorningStar Presents "Inside the Hollywood Jewish Noggin'"

MorningStar Board members Lara Berman, Julia Nickerson and Ravit Markus co-chaired an exciting program headlining writer/producer, Jenji Kohan, creator of Showtime's hit TV series "Weeds." The program, "Inside the Hollywood Jewish Noggin'" opened with a performance by the "Hebrew Mamita," Vanessa Hedary, an actress/playwright seen on HBO's television series, "Russell Simmons' Presents Def Poetry."

Award winning TV writer/producer, Jenji Kohan, took center stage and was interviewed "Inside the Actors' Studio" style about her visionary work and the creative process which she undertakes to develop wonderfully nuanced characters, and in particular Jewish female characters. The interviewer, Danielle Berrin journalist of the L.A. Jewish Journal, questioned Ms. Kohan for thirty minutes. The event was simultaneously podcast live on the JewishJournal.com website and is now archived on the site. The audience then broke up into five discussion groups with top entertainment professionals as each group leader. Performer and writer Vanessa Hidary lead one group and other groups were lead by talent agent Iris Grossman, MSC board member / casting director Marcia Ross, executive producer Jill Leiderman and writer/producer Jill Soloway.

MorningStar at Hadassah Southern California - Long Beach/Orange County

MorningStar member Sharon Lieblein is honored at the Seventh Annual Our Fair Ladies Intergenerational Luncheon. MSC's Chair, Olivia Cohen-Cutler, Senior V.P. at ABC Entertainment, was the featured speaker. Casting Director Sharon Lieblein is the V.P. of Talent and Casting at Nickelodeon.

MorningStar Co-Sponsors Film Series

A film series sponsored by KEHILLAT MA'ARAV, TIKVAH GROUP OF HADASSAH and THE MORNINGSTAR COMMISSION began with a screening of the award winning documentary, "Yiddish Theater: A Love Story," directed by Dan Katzir and produced by MorningStar Board Member Ravit Markus. Ravit spoke to the packed audience and answered questions about this fantastic movie that has rare interviews with some of the key players in the Yiddish Theater world today.

MorningStar at Stanford University - "Women and Ethnicity In the Media"

MSC's Chair, Olivia Cohen-Cutler, Senior V.P. of Standards and Practices at ABC Entertainment, was the featured speaker at the Taube Center for Jewish Studies. The program was co-sponsored by "The Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity", "The Clayman Institute for Gender Research", Stanford University's Hillel, and a Board Member of the Jewish Women's Archive. She spoke of how MorningStar has promoted diversity in the media and how the Commission will continue to work to engender greater acceptance and harmony portrayal of all cultures into the future.
