Because of this, it does a sanity check on the device type reported by the hardware. Unfortunately, the ActivCard reader is really a CCID reader but its firmware is reporting itself as an ICCD device. The LED next to the card lights up when a card is inserted but nothing is accessible. Disable, Enable, Uninstall, reinstall, remove, replace, reboot, etc, all does nothing. So, I used Driver Booster 4 to scan for driver updates. As it was scanning I noticed “Generic USB 2.0 card reader” flash through a couple of times. I never had a problem with XP or Vista recognizing it. Right now there are very little or almost no internal memory card readers that are compatible with Windows 7. Look on the New Egg web site and read some or all the reviews for memory card readers if you don't believe me. New Egg lists about 25 of them for sale.
