I used a razor knife and cut through the side and top of the little plastic holder and was able to get the chip out that way. It's a very small little rectangle chip inside that little plastic box.
Currently have two OEM keys with one that snapped halfway, from where the metal key portion meets the casing - still works after everything it's been through. I plan on transferring the remote and transponder chip from my broken OEM key .

FYI: You can always start your car even with a dead fob. If the battery is ever completely dead, just press the start button WITH the fob itself. There's a RFID type chip inside the fob that gets scanned when it's at close range with the button.
